Rezidenční pobyt Praha město literatury – květen a červen 2022

Paul Cuddihy je spisovatel, novinář a rodák z Glasgow. Od roku 2001 píše pro Celtic View, oficiální časopis fotbalového klubu Celtic, jehož je také redaktor. Pro klub napsal osm knih s fotbalovou tematikou, mezi nimi například biografii tamní legendy Tommyho Burnse.

Kromě literatury faktu napsal také trilogii historických románů o moderních irských dějinách zasazenou do Skotska, Irska a Severní Ameriky (Saints and Sinners, Black & White Publishing, 2010; The Hunted, Capercaille, 2011 a Land Beyond The Wave, tamtéž, 2012) a knihu povídek inspirovanou názvy písní skupiny Duran Duran (As Easy As A Nuclear War, Drone Publishing, 2015).

Jeho povídka Let It Be byla jedním z výherců prvního ročníku The Scotsman & Orange Short Story Award.

Podcast o knihách

Knihy nejen píše, ale rád je i čte a diskutuje o nich – v lednu 2020 si založil podcast Read All About It, kde si každý týden povídá se svým hostem o jejich oblíbených (nebo naopak nenáviděných) knihách. Pobyt v Praze a práce na nové knize

Během svého pobytu v Praze se chystá pracovat na beletrizovaném životopisu Johnnyho Maddena, skotského fotbalisty, kterému se také přezdívá „otec českého fotbalu“. V roce 1905 totiž opustil glasgowský fotbalový klub Celtic, aby se na celých 25 let stal trenérem v pražské Slavii, kde zavedl moderní metody trenérské práce. Kniha má pracovní název The Tartan Czech.

Paul Cuddihy – residency in Prague

A writer and a sports reporter Paul Cuddihy comes from Glasgow, where he has lived his whole life. Since 2001 he has been a reporter for Celtic View, the official magazine of the Celtic Footbal Club, of which he is also an editor. He has penned six football-themed non-fiction books for the club, amongst them a biography of the Celtic legend Tommy Burns.

He’s also an author of the historical trilogy telling the story of modern Ireland set in Scotland, Ireland and North America (Saints and Sinners, Black & White Publishing, 2010; The Hunted, Capercaille, 2011 and Land Beyond The Wave, Capercaille, 2012) and of As Easy As A Nuclear War (Drone Publishing, 2015), a short-stories collection inspired by Duran Duran song titles.

His short story Let It Be was one of the winners of the inaugural The Scotsman & Orange Short Story Award.

Aside from writing books, he also likes reading and discussing them. Because of that he has started his own podcast called Read All About It in January 2020 in which he talks with his guests about their favourite (or not so favourite) books. You can listen to it at https://paulcuddihy.com/read-all-about-it-podcast/. As a longtime fan of Duran Duran, he also co-hosts the Duran Duran Albums Podcast.

During his residency in Prague he will be working on the fictionalised story of Johnny Madden, a Scottish footballer who left the Glasgow Celtic Footbal Club and came to Prague to coach at Slavia Prague in 1905. He held this post for 25 years and earned the nickname ‚the Father of Czech Football‘ for helping to develop a modern style of coaching. The book’s working title is The Tartan Czech.
