Kde začít? Snad krátce tím, že setkání s dalším rezidentem byste si neměli nechat ujít. Prostřednictvím své osobité a podnětné tvorby vás nechá pohlédnout na Karibik svýma očima. Jeho témata jsou nadčasová a rozhodně přesahující hranice regionu.

Bernard Gaëtan Lagier patří k významným karibským dramatikům současnosti. Narodil se v roce 1958 na Martiniku. V roce 2005 napsal svůj první dramatický text, který se vzápětí stal klíčovou hrou nové karibské dramatiky. Hra se jmenuje Moi chien créole (Já, kreolský pes) a v roce 2007 vyšla v belgickém nakladatelství Émila Lansmana. Jde o zpověď psa na okraji společnosti, který nejenže citlivě vnímá všechny radosti i strasti „ulice“, je také pamětí mnohdy bolestné kreolské minulosti. Tento monolog je považován za zásadní text současné frankofonní dramatiky, nový hlas moderní karibské dramaturgie.

Autorova tvorba

Záznam premiéry scénického čtení Já, kreolský pes v překladu Vojtěcha Šarše režijně zachytil v roce 2020 Martin Františák.

V roce 2009 se Bernard Lagier podílel s dalšími šesti karibskými autory na vzniku dramatického sborníku Embouteillage Caraïbe (Dopravní zácpa na Karibiku). Je autorem her La Carte (Mapa) a L’Orchidée violée (Znásilněná orchidej), která hovoří o násilí na ženách.

Sdružení karibské dramatiky

V jeho životě nesmí chybět hudba, hrál na saxofon a flétnu v několika skupinách (u Hugha Charleca nebo v Martinique Brass Band apod.). Mnoho let vedl sdružení pro šíření a rozvoj současné karibské dramatiky ETC Caraïbe (Ecritures Théâtrales Contemporaines en Caraïbe). Nyní pracuje jako zástupce ředitele národní scény Tropiques-Atrium ve Fort-de-France.

Věnuje se také překladu. Například v roce 2017 přeložil hru Nathalie Sarrauteové Pour un Oui ou pour un Non. Tato hra byla pro divadelní podium téhož roku nastudována Patrickem Le Mauffem (bývalý ředitel festivalu Les Francophonies v Limoges) a představena na festivalu v Avignonu.

Na festivalu Jamais lu v kanadském Motrealu spolu s Frantzem Succabem z Guadeloupu a Evelyne Trouillotovou z Haiti přeložili hru Lang nou sé pa nou do kreolštiny.

Bernard Lagier tráví květen a červen 2023 v Praze v rámci svého dvouměsíčního rezidenčního pobytu Praha město literatury, kde bude pracovat také na nové divadelní hře. A naše spolupráce s festivalem Tvůrčí Afrika, Světem knihy a Francouzským institutem v Praze dostává v tomto roce další společný impulz.

11. května 2023

11. května 2023 od 16 hodin v Autorském sále na festivalu Svět knihy společně s další martinickou autorkou Alexandrou Déglise  proběhne povídání o ostrovním psaní pro divadlo, o mnohočetném charakteru karibské literatury, o kreolitě a tout monde, zazní i ukázky z jejich díla. Poté od 17 hodin u stánku KB004 v Křižíkově pavilonu B autogramiáda.

Bernard Lagier byl zároveň jmenován prezidentem poroty Goncourtovy ceny České republiky, která bude vyhlášena na knižním veletrhu.

13. května 2023

13. května 2023 od 18 hodin v Divadle APROPO (Jánský vršek 8) proběhne společný večer her martinických autorů Alexandry Déglise a Bernarda Lagiera v české premiéře. Připraveno bude také karibské občerstvení.

18.00 HOD. – ALEXANDRA DEGLISE: RAFAELOVY OSTROVY/LES ILES DE RAPHAEL (Česká premiéra)

V zahradě alchymistické hospůdky Kellyxír a Divadla APROPO ožijí prostřednictvím scénického čtení dramatu autorky z Martiniku intimní vzpomínky, rodinná paměť, paměť národa i zapomnění…Tři sestry si u příležitosti matčina pohřbu vyřizují účty se zesnulou, s níž se za jejího života neodvážily promluvit.

Po představení následuje krátká debata s autorkou a malé karibské občerstvení.

20.00 HOD. – BERNARD LAGIER: CHEMIN FORGEANT (Česká premiéra)

Zrání mladého muže mezi matčinými výhrůžkami výprasku a otcovými komentáři zápasů v boxu. Zpověď chlapce, jenž se ocitl v centru dění velkých mezinárodních událostí (válka ve Vietnamu, kubánská revoluce, zavraždění Lumumby, …) postupně si utváří své politické názory, hledá své pevné místo ve světě.

Open-air scénické čtení hry martinického dramatika v podání studentů Ústavu translatologie FF UK pod vedením Alžběty Malkovské.

Ve francouzštině s českými titulky. Po představení následuje krátká debata s autorem a malé karibské občerstvení.

Vstupné na místě na oba programy 100 a 150 Kč.

Prague UNESCO City of Literature – residency stay in May and June 2023

Through his unique and thought-provoking work, he lets you see the Caribbean by his own eyes. His themes are timeless and definitely transcending the borders of the region.

Bernard Gaëtan Lagier is one of the important contemporary Caribbean playwrights. He was born in Martinique in 1958. In 2005, he wrote his first dramatic text, which immediately became a key play of the new Caribbean dramaturgy. The play is called Moi chien créole and was published in 2007 by the Belgian publisher Émile Lansman. It is the confession of a dog on the fringes of society, who not only sensitively perceives all the joys and sorrows of the „street“, it is also a memory of the often painful Creole past. This monologue is considered an essential text of contemporary francophone drama, a new voice of modern Caribbean dramaturgy.

The premiere of the stage reading Moi chien créole (Já, kreolský pes) translated into Czech by Vojtěch Šarše was directed by Martin Františák in 2020.

In 2009, Bernard Lagier together with six other Caribbean authors compiled the dramatic anthology Embouteillage Caraïbe (Traffic Jam in the Caribbean). He is the author of the plays La Carte (The Map) and L’Orchidée violée (The Raped Orchid), which talk about violence against women.

He played the saxophone and flute in several groups (with Hugh Charlec or the Martinique Brass Band, etc.). For many years he led the association for the transmission and development of contemporary Caribbean drama ETC Caraïbe (Ecritures Théâtrales Contemporaines en Caraïbe). He currently works as Deputy Director of the Tropiques-Atrium National Theater in Fort-de-France.

Bernard Lagier is also active in translating. For example, in 2017, he translated Nathalie Sarraute’s play Pour un Oui ou pour un Non. This text was staged by Patrick Le Mauff (former director of the festival Les francophonies de Limoges) and played in the festival of Avignon 2017 (France).

At the „Jamais lu“ in Montréal (Canada) together with Frantz Succab from Guadeloupe and Evelyne Trouillot from Haiti, they wrote „Lang nou sé pa nou“ into Creole.

Bernard Lagier is spending May and June 2023 in Prague as part of his two-month residency UNESCO Prague the City of Literature, where he plans to work on a new play. And our cooperation with the Creative Africa festival, the Book World Prague and the French Institute in Prague is receiving another joint impetus this year.

On May 11, 2023, from 4 pm in the Author’s Hall at the Book World Prague festival, together with another Martinique author, Alexandra Déglise. Bernard Lagier was also appointed president of the jury for the Goncourt Prize of the Czech Republic, which will be announced at the book fair.

On May 13, 2023, from 6 pm in the APROPO Theatre (Jánský vršek 8), there will be a joint evening of plays by Martinique authors Alexandra Déglise and Bernard Lagier in the Czech premiere. Caribbean refreshments will also be available.

18.00 ALEXANDRA DEGLISE: RAPHAEL ISLANDS/LES ILES DE RAPHAEL (Czech premiere)

In the garden of the alchemist pub Kellyxír and the APROPO Theatre, intimate memories, family memory, national memory and oblivion will come to life through a staged reading of the drama by the author from Martinique…Three sisters, on the occasion of their mother’s funeral, settle accounts with the deceased, whom they did not dare to speak to during her lifetime.

20.00 BERNARD LAGIER: CHEMIN FORGEANT (Czech premiere)

The maturation of a young man between his mother’s threats of beatings and his father’s commentary on boxing matches. The confession of a boy who found himself at the center of major international events (the war in Vietnam, the Cuban revolution, the assassination of Lumumba, …) is gradually shaping his political views, looking for his firm place in the world.

An open-air scenic reading of the play by the Martinic playwright performed by students of the Institute of Translation Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the UK under the direction of Alžběta Malkovská.

In French with Czech subtitles. The performance is followed by a short discussion with the author.

Entrance fee on the spot for both programs on May, 13 are 100 and 150 CZK.
